Desert birds of the central coast
If there is a place where an ornithologist wants to be born … that is Peru. The enormous number of birds that exist in the coastal coastline, the desert, the plains, the puna, the mountains, the forests, the lagoons and even the city parks is an invitation to dream …
Birds in the Ica desert
Todo empezó en el año 2001 cuando el entonces joven Allan Batievsky nos visitó en el fundo Santa Rita: “¿Saben ustedes la tremenda variedad de aves diferentes que tienen aquí? Deberían llevar un inventario…
Efficiency and sustainability of water use
Better water saving techniques
Our operation has a drip irrigation system, which allows better efficiency in the use and exploitation of this water resource, in addition, it guarantees that the application of water to the plants is optimal in quantity and timeliness. Our pipe irrigation systems avoid losses due to evaporation and infiltration.
Mathematics and communication for all
Since 2005, the pedagogical proposal called Mathematics and Communication for All has been assumed in Ica, in conjunction with the APOYO Institute, as part of a development strategy in the communities and local institutions in the areas of influence of the company. Likewise, since 2020, the program joins the national strategy «I learn at home» to provide tools to teachers and students from different educational centers in Ica in the challenge of distance education.
Wastewater treatment plant (WWTP)
In August 2020, Agrokasa began construction of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Ica, which is designed to operate 365 days a year and 24 hours a day. This project will be one of the most modern in the region and will provide multiple benefits for the community, the environment and the agricultural sector.
Fertilization systems
It is a system with high-quality components and the latest technology designed to insert precise doses of fertilizers into the irrigation system. It optimizes the use of resources for each type of crop in addition to preventing the waste of water and fertilizer residues, thus reducing environmental pollution.
Test pits
The water used for crops intended for human consumption must be stored in places away from chemicals and cleaning products to avoid being contaminated with substances that cannot be detected in the air.
Surface water use
The surface water is captured, then, it goes through a complete water treatment system that begins with: flocculation and coagulation, to remove a large part of the impurities; then by sedimentation ponds, to remove the sands; and finally through the gravel filters, before entering the fields. Hydrogen peroxide disinfection serves to protect the water against microorganisms and contaminants that could enter through the pipes. It is worth mentioning that the availability of surface water depends on seasonality in each of our venues.
Integrated pest management
Currently the Agro-food industry promotes the development of these practices and in AGK the MIP has been used since our company began.
We use beneficial predatory insects such as Phytoseidae mites,
lacewings, as well as parasitoids such as trichogramma sp and tetrastichus wasps. The use of control nematodes such as heterorhabditis for insect pests that inhabit the soil. For each crop there is an ecosystem where plants, pests and their biocontrollers develop, so we have different species of beneficial insects as the case may be.
Falconry
Falconry is the activity of hunting with birds of prey, especially with hawks, goshawks and other birds of prey to capture poultry or ground species. Biologically it is a symbiosis between man and animal, a relationship in which both species.
Preservation Zone
They are intangible areas within our farms in which flora and fauna develop. Also included are areas of high conservation value such as those places where archaeological remains are found (Farms Las Mercedes and Santa Rita).
Work with communities
Agrokasa privileges its relationship with neighboring communities within a long-term vision and sustainable development. These communities are our strategic partners for the development of our projects. In this context, we are committed to promoting mutually beneficial relationships that will allow us to collaborate in self-sustained local development through dialogue, participation, trust and respect for the population that welcomes us.
Agrokasa prioritizes the implementation of development projects in the communities in the area of influence of its operations. For this, five fronts of action have been defined:
• Development of Educational, Civic and Productive Capacities, promoting the participation of the inhabitants and supporting local institutions.
• Specific actions of communal and institutional social support.
• Support in Municipal Management for the Development of Basic Infrastructure and implementation of state social aid programs.
• Citizen security.
• Agrokasa bases its operation in Barranca, Peru.
Garbage is a great challenge in Peru. Many people burn it or throw it away in a public place because, many times, they do not have appropriate infrastructure for the segregation and temporary storage of solid waste, nor do they have the habit of disposing of garbage properly and are not aware of the effects. harmful of their actions on health and hygiene in the community.
Aggrokasa is a major employer in Barranca; In close cooperation with the municipality, it started a comprehensive recycling program. In central areas of the towns and in schools, different colored containers have been installed for the collection and separation of garbage. The schedules of the municipal collection trucks have been adjusted to the program to achieve optimal results. Residents also receive training.
In total 2,500 people participate in the program. Agrokasa coordinates the program and is already working to expand it to other communities in the area.
Bee Breeding
Bees are insects with the ability to fly and are well known for making rich honey and wax. There are more than 20,000 different species of bees registered.
Bees are valuable allies in the production of fruits for blueberry and avocado crops through pollination.
